Logistics and Infrastructure Like many developing countries, India suffers from very poor infrastructure. Electrical power is in short supply and except in cities, often there are long hours in the course of a normal working day without power supply. Even when electrical power is available, the quality of power is quite poor. Voltage and frequency are not stabilized and can vary over an extraordinarily wide range. Often equipments designed in developed countries do not take this factor into account. CNC machines especially are quite sensitive to the quality of power supply. Transportation is another nightmarish factor in the infrastructure area. The only form of transportation really available to the industry is by road and this is expensive. Transportation by rail with the existing inefficiencies of the Indian railways is ruled out. Therefore to mass manufacture at one point and transport the goods over long distances, using surface transport does not often work well. It is not often an economically viable proposition.
